Step – 1 Make sure the InfoPath form template is compiled in a debug configuration and that the XSN contains a symbol file (PDB).
You must Modify Visual Studio Tools for Applications (VSTA) to create PDB files for your forms solution that provides complete debug information.
- 1A – InfoPath opens the form layout in Design view using InfoPath Designer 2010.
- 1B. Open the code editor from the Developer tab in InfoPath the Designer 2010. This will open the formats in Visual Studio tools that are available to applications.
- 1C – Make sure VSTA debugging scripts are enabled.
- Go to Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions and set the Show Advanced Build Configuration option.
- Go to Tools> Debug Options >> and make sure the “Only my code (managed only)” and “Remove JIT optimization for loading module (managed only)” checkboxes are checked. li>
- 1D – make sure Active (Debug) is configured via Build Configuration Manager => Build -> Configuration Manager.
- Determine Active Solution Configuration – Debug
- Specify the active platform for the solution – any processor.
- 1E – Make sure the project debug options are set You are correct (“Debug”) in the task properties window by right-clicking “Project” -> “Properties”.
- On the Build tab -> Config for Debugging and Accessibility -> Set Debug Info to Full. If you only see debug as an option and there is no active configuration selection (debug), make sure debugging is configured for the configuration manager as described in the previous step.
- On the “Debug” tab -> set the active configuration (“Debug”).
- Compile InfoPath code in debug mode to include PDB files.
- Make sure the DLL and PDB files in the bin debug folder are running.
Step 2. Publish the InfoPath form and verify that the XSN file contains a debug version of some compiled code.

Step 4: Debug InfoPath Form Code Using Visual Studio, not VSTA
- 4A – Open a browser and return to the SharePoint site where the forms are being applied. This will launch the IIS artist process, which needs to be connected to help Visual Studio with debugging.
- 4B. Open FormCode.cs in Visual Studio 2010.
