This user guide will help you if you find that Windows gadgets have stopped working.
Located on Windows Sidebar (Windows Desktop Gadgets) crashes after adding a third-party device with the message “GadgetHave you Windows Desktop Stopped Working “or” Windows Sidebar Has Stopped Working “(Windows Vista) every time you start? You can prevent the problematic gadget from rebooting by changing the gadgets location file in the Windows sidebar. Here are the instructions that are practiced on Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
If the Sidebar.exe process is running, you will not be able to write to the configuration file. Start Task Manager (taskmgr.exe), select the Sidebar.Process exe file and close it if it is running.
Click the Start button, type the following path in the search box, and press Enter.
In the above location, Desktop Store gadgets receive configuration information in a file named Settings.ini.
Important information about the configuration of the last installed desktop gadget can usually be found at the end of the INI file. Use the privatesetting_gadgetname line as a hint, find the appropriate [Section #], go to all the lines below and delete them. Remove any blank lines that might have been created as a result of the deletion.
Then go to the specific start of the INI file and remove the Section # line indicating annoyinggadget. Since you removed the entries in [Section 5], remove the line immediately after:
Reduce any blank lines that may have been created by deleting them and save the Settings.ini file.
Right-click on the desktop and select Gadgets. This will start the Sidebar.exe process and display the exact gadgets listed in the Settings.ini file.
[Windows Vista Users] The above user interface may not be available in Windows Vista. If you are using Windows Vista, launch the launch.exe sidebar manually from the starter or search package or through a dialog box. This will launch the Windows sidebar and load the gadgets added above, excluding the problematic ones.

How do I fix Windows gadgets has stopped working?
If you need to go to the Control Panel and change the view relative to the category.Select Appearance and Personalization.Then click Restore Desktop Gadgets Installed with Windows.
If you don’t want to try too hard, just rename or delete the Settings.ini file and restart Sidebar.exe. It creates a new Settings.ini file for the logo, which means that custom changes to your sidebar / gadgets will be lost, not to mention the need to add and reconfigure gadgets.
