Recently, some of our readers informed us that they are facing vmware vdiskmanager disk encoding error.

as the name suggests when I try to grow a huge 15-50 GB disk with a single command

I don’t know, it’s because these vmdks were created with vmware Windows Cream and the vdiskmanager copies for Mac don’t like them. I can definitely decide to copy the vmdks to the windows box and compress them for you.

I have created a virtual system using VMWare Workstation 12 Player. I have strictly chosen the type of hard drive so that it can be expanded. Now I want to go back to the default settings.

From this google I learned that it can be fixed with help yu vmware-vdiskmanager.exe . However, it looks like this utility does not come with VMware Player. Is there any other way to achieve this?

The website introduces me to this virtual disk SDK. I downloaded from https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vddk/. When I use it from the command line, it says: Error while changing hard drive: hard drive encoding error (0x3ebd) .I doubt this is due to a specific version mismatch.

I currently blame Linux, which messed up the VMDK, for the disk layout; Looking at the VMDK with the link information using Notepad, I noticed that all the configuration options were running online, this is obviously the result of the original operating system from the VMDK, which was most likely Linux. I have to transfer the layout to VMDK and NOT to hard drive, allsome data -flat.vmdk, right? I was currently trying to pass * -flat.vmdk with the same result.

I have personally verified that you MUST use the vmware-vdiskmanager.exe that ships with VMware Workstation; I installed the latest vdisk dev kit from where and it did NOT work. Instead, the virtual disk manager that came with the SDK gave me a lot of errors like

After trying to use the Virtual Manager hard disk tool located in the VMware Workstation program folder, it worked fine.
