  • Order from most of the recovery systems built into macOS.   • D: Access Apple Diagnostics, run. Or use Option-D-Start to navigate to this utility from the internet. Disabled when using a firmware password.
  • N: Start NetBoot Server if your Mac supports network boot volumes. Use the default shoe image on the server while holding down Option-N instead. Disabled when using a firmware password.
  • Command-S: Start climbing in single player mode. DisableAvailable on macOS Mojave or later, or using a firmware password.
  • T: Boot in target disk mode. Disabled when using a firmware password.
  • Command-V: Launch in verbose mode. Disabled when using a firmware password.
  • Eject (â) or F12, mouse button or touch pad button: Ejects media such as optical discs that can be easily ejected. Currently disabled by firmware password.

If the keyboard shortcut does not work at startup, one of the following solutions may help:

  • Press and hold all the keys in a combination together, not always just one.
  • Shut down your Mac. Then press the power button to turn on your Mac. You may have to wait a few seconds before pressing the In buttons. Give your Mac more time when you need to recognize the keyboard on startup. Some keyboards have an LED that flashes briefly at startup to indicate that the computer keys are recognized and ready to use.
  • If you have a wireless keyboard, connect it to your If Mac. Or use vstswivel keyboard or wired keyboard. If you are using a keyboard designed for a great PC, such as a keyboard with a beautiful Windows logo, try a keyboard designed for a Mac.
  • If you are using Boot Camp to concentrate on Microsoft Windows, install in macOS boot disk preferences instead. Then reboot quickly or try again.
