Over the past few years I have been writing with Winamp more or less with slightly high CPU usage. Usage during normal playback (mp3 files or mp3 / aac streaming) has been consistent among teens for at least these 30 years, and memory usage appears to have been 50MB and up. I often get rid of computer parts because the decision is not essential to my configuration. I did today to take the time to find out. Here’s what I found and some ideas: At first I was wrong about the output plugin. This is the result of keeping the same settings on every update. Better yet, not what I saw on another computer and others end up saying this / p> I fiddled with Yield Directsound settings and so on, but I had a hunch that there would no longer be a solution. In fact, I found that when I switched to the classic skin instead of the modern one, the CPU usage often drops to zero (and frees up an extra 10MB of memory – the usage is now over 30MB, which is a lot), but OK)! BIG! FANTASTIC ! My most effective question is, is it really worth fiddling with with the modern skin care settings for affected skin (timer refresh value?) To potentially reduce CPU usage …? Am I missing out on a lot when using the classic skin? The look doesn’t bother me that much, and so far I don’t see any missing features (which is at least important to me). Should an organization resort to support for modern skins and try to optimize CPU usage?

Longtime Winamp user, happy with years of listening.

Over the past few years, I’ve become less tolerant of Winamp’s fairly high CPU utilization. Daily reading usage (MP3 files or mp3 / aac streaming) fluctuated constantly between teens for at least 30 seconds, and memory usage was 50MB and up. I am saving information about the computer because the agent is independent of my configuration. Today I decided to spend some time researching the product. Here’s what I found, followed by a question or two:

I was using the wrong output plugin at first. This could be because all of my settings remained the same, because I updated. This explains a simple solution:

This actually gave you 10MB of memory back, and usage increased from 5 to 25. Better, but still not the opposite of what I saw on the other computer and the rest of the statements.

I fiddled with direct audio output and settings, but more guessed that this would not be a solution. In truth, I amIt turned out that when I switched to the classic skin instead of using the standard modern skin, the CPU usage dropped to almost zero (and I added 10MB of memory – now the usage is definitely around 30MB, which is fine, but hello)! BIG! FANTASTIC !

My only question is, is it worth experimenting with these modern skin support settings (worthy of a reanimation timer?) To reduce CPU usage …? Am I missing a lot if I use an old fashioned skin? The view doesn’t really bother me, and so far I can’t find the missing features (which is at least important to me).

Should I go back to supporting modern skins and optimizing CPU usage?

I have 2 systems:
AMD K6-II 450 MHz with 64 MB SDRAM with Win98
and
AMD K6-II 400 MHz with 128 MB SDRAM with Win2k Pro (temporarily) a

Win98 hardware with Winamp and DFX is using ~ 40% of my CPU.
Win2k machine Winamp and DFX take about 30% of my cpu chip.

Apart from DFX, I don’t run all other programs with it.

How does it work? Is this a Winamp result, is MMX improved or something like that? I know a friend of mine with P3-500 who installs Winamp, in Win2k it only takes 1-2% of the CPU.
