To upgrade Server Weblogic 4.5 or 5.1 to WebLogic Server 8.1, do the following:

    1. Install the WebLogic 8.1 server. See manuals for installation.
      weblogic 8.1 servlet 2.3

Prior to Server Weblogic 6.0, a separate download was required if you needed 128-bit or 56-bit encryption. WebLogic Server 8.1 has one download for 56-bit and 128-bit encryption. For more information about enabling 128-bit encryption, see Enabling 128-bit encryption in the Installation Guide.

This installer explicitly forbids the installation of a new version exactly in the place where the unused version is located.

    2. Update the forum license files. For instructions on migrating licenses to a new version, see Upgrading the WebLogic Server License File Structure.
    3. Transform the name=”1075827″> of the weblogic.properties file. For guidance on converting weblogic.properties data, see Converting the weblogic.properties file to XML and Files in the console’s help documentation.
    4. In the appropriate console window, enter the name of the new custom administration server. This used name is used for the Administration Server in the same way as the server name. If the name is not specified, the name type is default.Destination – myserver.
    5. Enter the directory location for all resulting transform output configurations. All files and subdirectories created as a result of the original domain change will simply be placed in this directory.
    6. Add your classes to the Java CLASSPATH system. For more information, see Loading Classes in WebLogic 8 server.1.
    7. Change the common startup scripts to work with WebLogic 8.1. See Editing Launch Scripts.
    8. Package in addition to the WebLogic Server Side Business Element Port (assigned implementations called web applications since WebLogic Server 6 TB 0) works with WebLogic 8.1. See Converting Existing Applications to Web Applications.
    9. If you need to port EJBs, see Porting in addition to Converting Enterprise JavaBeans Applications.
    10. Upgrade JMS. Starting with Server 4.5, many new configuration attributes have recently been added to JMS WebLogic. For more information, see Updating JMS.

To update the keyServer Wizard, also follow the steps above for each server, and then follow the steps in Configuring WebLogic Clusters in Working with Clusters, WebLogic Steps. All servers in the cluster must still be running version 8.1 as there is no longer compatibility between versions .5 and 8.1 or between versions 5.1 and 8.1.

Note. name=”1092788″> The directory structure in WebLogic Server 8.1 is different because of this 4 of 5 and 5.1. For final information on the updated directory structure, see Understanding the WebLogic Server Directory Structure Using Post-Installation Tasks.

The Java license format file (WebLogicLicense.class) and the license XML format file (WebLogicLicense.XML) are no longer protected. These used files are from previous versions of WebLogic Server and need to be converted to the new format. The new document license is called license.bea.

If name=”1100394″> is using the important WebLogicLicense.License class file found in your existing WebLogic Server installation, complete the following tasks before installing WebLogic Server 7.x:

    1. ConvertCopy the license file WebLogicLicense.class to a WebLogicLicense a.XML file to get the licenseConverter utility.
    2. Convert the WebLogicLicense.XML file as described in Convert a WebLogic License to an XML License.

What can I do with Oracle WebLogic Server?

To convert a WebLogicLicense a.XML file to a license.bea file (WebLogic is compatible with Server 6.x and 7.x), follow these steps . Make sure the WebLogicLicense.XML file is available on the computer you are using to complete this procedure.

    1. Log in to the bea customer support site at http://websupport.beasys.com/custsupp.
