I got this error message after trying to rename my computer. Should I remove it from the arena first, or is there some way to do this without removing the domain?

If you rename a computer in the domain, you will have to reconnect frequently. If you also run the Join Domain Wizard (usually a button in the Rename section), this will allow someone to rename the computer when everyone joins our domain. This usually identifies the exact error.

If you rename a computer in the domain, you will have to reconnect frequently. If you just run the Domain Join Guru (usually the button in the Rename section), you can probably rename the computer joining the domain when you join it. It will usually benefit from this error.

Enable SMB1 support. Press Windows Key + R to open Run.Check with a third party antivirus. Third party computers are known to cause the error described earlier.Use a system restore point. Enter service system in the search bar.

Are you trying to rename the server? Domain controller? So when I think he should not allow it.
Go to Start> Settings> System> Information and enable the Rename PC button in the permissions column under PC. Then enter the legal name with which you want to rename the computer. Remember that you cannot use spaces or many other special characters. If you are able to use them, you will usually get the error below.

Just open ADSIEdit, navigate to the AD container containing the misnamed object, click it and rename it.

Right-click your computer and select Change Settings next to where this method displays the computer name.
When this window opens, simply click on the button next to “To rename this computer, change its domain …” and start the wizard. Just enter the new device name in the box on the right when prompted!
