Here is my next application which may be released in a few days with iSlsk for firmware 2.0. Named PwnPlayer (after the jailbreak solution we all know and love), this is definitely a media player app that aims to completely replace the current default music app.
The reason I made PwnPlayer in the first place was iSlsk because the music import feature is very short lived in iOS 2.0. So I needed something to be able to listen to downloaded music on the full iPhone system in a “cool” and user-friendly way that… the apps that existed for that purpose weren’t good at all. Maybe That’s why I decided to develop a software application that mimics the MobileMusicPlayer user interface and offers many additional features.
– For Linux users, haters of iSlsk and iTunes: the playback systemFile names. PwnPlayer plays all folders in your iPhone/iPod file system and plays MP3 files just like MobileMusicPlayer in playlists, add/remove/tag graphics and supports editing. Just drag and drop your MP3s using your favorite file browser such as WinSCP, CureFTP, CyberDuck or iPhoneBrowser… Or download them using iSlsk or any other file browser. Loading music!
– Music Library Compatibility: If you want to continue using Apple iTunes *puke*, PwnPlayer is fully compatible with the Fridge Freezer Music Library
– Search: Type in the very first letters of the song/artist/album/file you want to search for, hit Search and it will appear right here. Works with songs from the music and library file system. screen
– Body Language Control: This is one of the user favorites. You can control your PwnPlayer by simply swiping on your locked TV screen for easy manual control. Organize without unlocking your device. If you haven’t seen it online above, here’s a screenshot:
– CoverFlow: Almost mimics the look and feel of Coverflow in MobileMusicPlayer. It currently only works with the iTunes library, but may also support the MP3 file system in the future.
– Background Processes: PwnPlayer is designed for jailbroken devices, so your company no longer has to worry about it not running in the background. To hell with the Apple SDK rules!
– ridiculous integration with SpringBoard: PwnPlayer automatically integrates with SpringBoard. You can find information about the currently playing song on the lock screen and double tap on the home screen to slow down the music when you are in the second app when PwnPlayer is running.
– Manage playlists: create, edit and subscribe to playlists with one click.
All of the above may be available at initial release. Future updates will include:
– Plugins: Yes, if the above isn’t enough, obviously you can always add other cool features to PwnPlayer via its plugin procedure. Or even create your own postersNames and spread them! Support for more formats, lyrics viewer, Last.FM scrobbler, streaming… imagine if alternatives were possible and never found in the default MobileMusicPlayer.
– Video: PwnPlayer does not currently support video playback, it’s just one of its top priorities for future updates.
– Support for awesome playlists? : I don’t know yet how difficult it will be to support this new feature in the 2.1 firmware under discussion, but yes, it may be in future updates as well.
– Move music files between file system and music library? A: Well, I said earlier that it’s not available right now because the new iTunesDB security checksums haven’t been cracked yet. But if one day someone is finally able to completely redesign it, it will certainly be possible.
