I was trying to mount a search engine penalized Linux VM from a 32-bit WinXP host to a 64-bit Win 7 host. To do this, I simply copied any relevant directory from [VirtualBox From vms] of the people’s host to another, and then used Machine –> Add… on Win Host 7.

However, due to a GRUB error, I am unable to boot into a Linux guest on the new host. I get the boot options shown (guest is openSUSE 11.4) but whenever I select openSUSE, shortly after that I get an error: “Error 13: Invalid or unsupported exe format”. The splash screen also states why “partition filesystem type ext2fs, 0x83”.

I can boot a guest for openSUSE from a network install drive, but I can’t repair or upgrade the installation because of this error.

I’ve searched the forums for this topic, but I’ve only found a few threads that don’t seem relevant. I use VirtualBox almost every few years and have never been able to copy guests between hosts. I thought those with the new version with the 4x file structure would finally get it working, so again this is disappointing.
