Here are some simple methods that can help you solve your esx uuid.bios issue. VMware contains two UUIDs to identify the virtual machine. The BIOS UUID (uuid.bios in the .vmx file) was previously the original virtual machine identifier implemented to identify the virtual machine and is derived from the hardware on which the virtual machine is deployed.

    Context

I am using ESXi 6.0.0 in free mode. I created a virtual machine, then copied its files to a different directory in the datastore to create the next machine (almost like a template). As a result, I got two working VMs, these VMs worked fine with the wording.

    Problem

    What is BIOS UUID?

The BIOS UUID is a unique number on the motherboard, and if you’ve changed your motherboard, it’s safe to say that everyone has changed computers. From my point of view, this is the best way to identify your hardware, and as I showed you in this tip, it is extremely easy to implement.

My backup disks are finally here, so now I’m trying to configure Unitrends to perform VM-level backups. When I try to connect Unitrends to ESXi I get the error:

The virtual simulators “vm1name” and “vm2name” have the same UUID for a particular instance. Use the VMware vSphere client or other administration tool to assign a new UUID to any virtual machine.

As per the advice in this forum post: I tried to restore the VMX file to change a specific bios.uuid value. This did not fix the error. Then I tried to use the main script from the same post on PowerCLI. This showed me that I was heavily duplicating the UUIDs of the instances. They are clearly fromThey are given from the UUID price ranges in the vmx file (which is usually unique). I have two machines, each with instance UUID

Unfortunately, it seems that usually I cannot find a way to change the UUID of an instance. I couldn’t find anything on the internet.

    Question

How to extend instance UUID for VA on ESXi? I really have to be for this to work and would appreciate any help from you. Thanks !

How do I find my VMware UUID?

From one ESXi shell (example via .SSH) function command grep -i vcUUID / etc / vmware / esx. conf. See the vCenter UUID at / vsan / configGen / vcUuid.
