I am too hasty with simple statements. I would say that this was not due to an update, but due to a bad call. View:

The Amavis configuration template contains a search for the desired scanning utility, it may conflict with any other tool of the same name.

I did a lot of research and found this in the /usr/local/bin tool, so I figured it would be best to call it directly from /opt/sophos-av. It will also save money in the future.

The device seems to be internal or obsolete to me now, /usr/local/bin/sweep is a link to savscan. Clean out /opt/sophos-av/engine which is not in your current PATH.

After upgrading to OS 10.8.3, I got the message “Sophos Anti-Virus cannot continue.” I’d say the app was uninstalled and reinstalled (version 8.0.14C). But every time Sophos Anti-Virus tries to run a scan (like local drives) I get the same message. When I look at my file, I keep seeing “Failed to initialize virus detection engine”. What should I do to get it? start again?
