General Information

Each binary one is “good” or “zero” on a digital connection corresponds to an electrical pulse. Digital systems reverse the integer polarity of each serial bit to provide a sufficient amount of voltage offset. This alternate marking inversion is intended to ensure that the receiving device is perfectly synchronized and detects the arrival of binary “a” and “0”. Two consecutive impulses of the same polarity (both or positive-negative) cause a bipolar disorder.
In addition to AMI, DS-3 plus E3 channels also support 3% Bipolar Substitution (B3ZS) or High Density Bipolar Multiple Connection (HDB3). These line coding schemes are no longer designed to support timing by providing enough bits.
