    BonziBuddy, styled like BonziBUDDY (pronounced BON-zee-bud-ee), was an open source virtual desktop assistant developed by Joe and followed by Jay Bonzi. At the request of a user who shares anecdotes and facts, manages CDs, sings songs, talks and performs many functions. [1] Some versions of the software have been marked as [2] spyware and adware. [3]

    The software used Microsoft Agent technology, similar to Office Assistant technology, [4] , and originally included a green bird and one of the symbols available in Microsoft Agent. Later versions of BonziBuddy before 2000 may have their own character: Bonzi, the purple gorilla. [5] The program also supports text-to-speech with the appropriate user set at the top. The voice was called Sydney and also came from the older Lernout & Hauspie Microsoft Speech API 4.0 package. In some programs, it is oftencalled adult male # 2.

    Support for BonziBuddy was discontinued in 08AD after the company behind it faced legal disputes over software and was asked to pay fines. [6] The Bonzi website continued shortly after BonziBuddy was closed, but was available around the end of 2008.

    Critical

    In April 2007, PC World readers voted BonziBuddy sixth on the list as Boringest Tech Products. One reader was cited as criticizing the program for “constantly discovering and hiding things that someone needed to see.” [7]

    In one of the latest newspaper articles written about BonziBuddy, when the device was still on sale, it was called spyware and the “curse of the Internet.” [8] Another article published in 2006 on businessweek described BonziBuddy as “insanely annoying spyware trojan”. [9]

    Spyware

    A number as well as sources have identified BonziBuddy as spyware, but the company denies this claim. [10] In 2002, a consumer commentary on Reports Web Watch identified BonziBuddy As spyware and said it is a backdoor Trojan that collects information from visitors. The program of action should include permanently reloading the owner’s web browser home page on bonzi.com without the uncontested consent of the user and requesting various aids and advice regarding the user, installing a toolbar and therefore providing advertisements. [11]

    Both Trend and Micro Symantec classify this software as adware. [12] [13] [14] An entry in the spyware manual. The program also indicates that it is adware. [15]

    Legal Issues

    On May 27, 2003 Internetnews.com announced the resolution of the class action lawsuit. The Bonzi criminal, originally filed against Bonzi Software 4 in December 2002, used his banner ad to mislead Windows computer alerts and alert a new user that his IP address was being broadcast. As part of the deal, Bonzi Software decided to change its displays to be smaller than Windows dialog boxes and therefore bThey looked more like real displays. [16] [17]

    On February 18, 2004, the FTC released a descriptive statement stating that Bonzi Software, Inc. was ordered, on opposite grounds, to pay $ 75,000 in compensation for violation of the Privacy Act. They provide personal information. children under 12 years old BonziBuddy. [18]
