If you’ve been up to date with the latest Windows updates, chances are you’ve added the October 2020 Microsoft Change Pack along with the fixes – provided you weren’t blocked safe from them. One big change experienced users are likely to notice is the removal of the unmistakably old system window from Control Panel.

Earlier, following the backlink, you got to a section that looked like this:

I don’t mind the change as you can still find the same information as before, only in the changed order. However, it annoys me a little that a person cannot change the default to change the old school window if you want to again. But thanks to three little workarounds, someone can still access the old system control panel that we all know and love – for now.

First, open the Control Panel in Windows 10. Do not click the System button, the Settings application window will open. Instead, drag the system to link the taskbar. This should place the icon on the taskbar, it really is exactly what you want. Right click this box which should look like a tracein the following way:

All links work as usual, as this is the old classic system window that you have been using on Windows for years. Isn’t that good?

If your company doesn’t want to pin a system shortcut to the taskbar, how often do you really need to access a particular screen? – there is a second workaround you can use to invoke it whenever you want. I admit this is the easy way, but I want to leave the best for last.

B Go to the normal control panel screen and it should look like this (if I like you, I prefer the small icons):

Right-click System, in this case left-click Open. You must use Open; You cannot click “Open in New Window”, otherwise you will be returned to the information screen based on the settings. When you click something else, “Open” is a fun, hopefully temporary shortcut that allows you to return to the old school system screen one day.

For a third workaround, open File Explorer, usually click This PC in the far left corner of the sidebar, then right click anywhere above the main window that is within this icon, z also:

I don’t know how long these little things last, so I gave you three. Hopefully, Microsoft usually limits the patching time for all consumers (or just leaves them alone) for many of us who use a “normal” control panel from time to time.

You can also click “Start”, type “Control Bar” and click “Control Panel” to open the Control Panel without loading Win + X, the main menu editor, as shown below.

Future updates to Windows Ten may revert the changes you made by following the steps above. When the Control Options panel disappears from the Power User menu, follow the steps above – add it back.

Prior to rolling out the Creators Update last month, I updated my Windows installation to address several persistent gaming issues. After being promoted, I noticed that Microsoftdid me a favor by removing the control panel in WinX Power User Paste that appears when you right-click on the Start button and, if necessary, press the Windows key + the shortcut for the X power button. The control panel, of course, has has been superseded by the Settings app.

I know that Microsoft is gradually moving Control Panel functionality into Settings. Regardless, the control panel is still very much needed, so now I prefer it in all WinX menus than in the settings.

Here you will find tips on how to get back. To get started, you need all of the control panel shortcuts. Instead of creating your own, download the predefined shortcut from the German blog Deskmodder.de (ZIP). Pull out the folder and place the Control Link panel on someone’s desk.

This is not an open control panel!

Now in File Explorer, press Windows Key + E, then click that address bar. Enter % LOCALAPPDATA% MicrosoftWindowsWinXGroup2 and now hit Hit.

Note that the Settings app is requested in this folder using the shortcuton the control panel. Before we can return real control of the panel to the past, we need to get rid of the updated shortcut to control the panel.

First of all, let’s flip all the links in this directory in case something goes wrong. All families need to do is copy the shortcuts and paste them into a new folder after the desktop. Name the folder whatever you want, but “WinX Backups” or something similar is probably a good idea.

In addition to the work panel, the Control Is panel has returned.

After that, go back to the explorer and remove the shortcut from the current panel. After desktop drag the shortcut to the WinX folder. A gorgeous new setup should look like the one shown in the photo.

Restart Windows Explorer to see the changes in WinX.

Now let’s see if this works. Close all Explorer windows, right-click anywhere on the taskbar, and select Task Manager from the context navigation. With Task Manager open, scroll All the way down to the Processes tab, click Windows Explorer, and then click Restart.

The taskbar will disappear for a second to restart File Explorer. Then right-click on the Start Panel or press Windows Key + X and / or Control Panel should be on the WinX menu.

    Why has my computer disappeared?

It is also possible that the visibility settings for desktop icons have been disabled, which is why they disappear. Make sure Show Math Symbols is checked. If it doesn’t, click on it once to make sure it doesn’t cause any problems displaying your desktop tokens. You should immediately see your views reappear.
