Hi, I’m trying to set up a specific static IP address on a minimally configured virtual machine. The VM IP is usually 170.20.x.100 but when I configure /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 must fully point to IPADDR 172.20.x. And hundreds of times when I restart networking with systemctl I get an error that says “Error, some other hosts are already using address 172.20.x.100 and the second time I change IP changing to a different value than the IP address resolves and the problem confirms that I checked all these other hosts on my network and don’t have that IP address on any interface.

Although I found a file called /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-br1 on the main host, and it matters, I have an IP of 172.20.x.100 in the exact IPADDR field but when I use ifconfig on the interface it doesn’t show the ip, instead it shows 172.20.x.1 which is the correct address. I am using some host principles as a network gateway. It’s also a cloned VM and I’ve run into a few issues already. I was only able to ping my gateway because the mac address of the media computer and the mac file ifcfg-eth0were different, but I changed it to a specific MAC address that Virt-Manager gave me and this one worked. Now the only problem is thatI would like to force my new VM to get 172.20.x.100 as the internet protocol address. Are you aware of a problem with this method?
